Still More Chevrons

Quick post!  Tuesday's are my long days and I have a bunch of stuff to get ready yet tonight.  It's Sketch week over at Hand Stamped Sentiments.  Take a look:

I'm getting so much use from this stamp set-LOVE it!  Hope everyone has a fabulous Tuesday.  Only two more weeks of class for me!

Zig Zag Duos

Sorry, chevron always seems so hoity toity when I say it.  It's monochromatic week with the Dynamic Duos and I have to admit this one threw me:



Don't get me wrong, I was super excited to see Pool Party!  You may remember how I may have to hold a color funeral for this color if SU really retires it this year...but Island Indigo.  Not so much. I'm not sure why I haven't caught on with this one.  As I was putting my scraps away from last week's card, I found a chevron pattern I had made for a previous scrap page (that I don't think I ever shared) and thought I'd use this technique again for this card.  Take a look at my card:

I had planned a Vanilla card, but a dropped cling stamp with Staz On had a different idea. I'm also wishing I had covered up the stamp so the partial image isn't on the card. 

I made the chevron with the In Color DSP packs, First Edition, and Crumb Cake card stock.  I added a wood button with Pool Party bakers twine and a Saleabration Pool Party button with Island Indigo twine.  The sentiment is from Bring on the Cake. I liked how it mimicked the newsprint.

Tin Roof....Rusted

Singing Love Shack are ya?!?!  I felt very rusty this week as I played with the Dynamic Duos color challenge:



It probably wasn't helping that I really wished I had the cloud embossing folder, but I haven't pressed go on my order because I keep going back and forth...anyone else do this?    Here's my card:

I wish I would have taken a picture of all the pieces I cut to go on this card that are still laying on my desk. ugh.

I went for CAS-very CAS.  I can say Tempting Turquoise is a color I don't use often and it really threw me!  I wish Stampin' Up gave us more DSP in neglected colors, as I didn't like the pack patterns with the image...like I said I really *wished* I had that folder.

I can't wait to see what you do with this challenge!  I'm always amazed how many interpretations we get with two different colors.  Be sure to head over and see what the other ladies have designed and link up with us.

Forced Creativity

Sorry for the lapse in postings.  I could get into details but I'll just leave it at a "I wasn't in the creative mood."  Truth is I really wasn't today either, but I forced myself, and it was good.  Sometimes I guess we have to get back into the things we really love to make us aware of what they give us.  For about 30 minutes I didn't think about the dread.  I have to admit it was tough!  Look at the Hand Stamped Sentiments color challenge I had to work with:





Now some of you may think that with two girls this should be easy...but I really do find it hard to work with pink.  Maybe it's because I don't consider myself a girly girly?!?!  I made a card, again I was on a time crunch.  I found a sketch I liked that had a large circle, but I couldn't get the rest of the card to work, so I punted and this is what I ended up with:

The circle is the only thing that made the card.  I love (love) this hexagon embossing folder and sadly it was the first time I've used it.  I embossed the polka dot pattern from the DSP stacks and carefully cut out the hexagons.  For the butterflies, I used my markers and colored the images (for the large one, I went lightest in the middle to darkest on the outside and vice versa for the smaller one), spritzed with some water and stamped on my watercolor paper.  The best thing is they were punched with coordinating punches-no fussy cutting for me!

O' Christmas Tree

To early to talk about Christmas?!? Well I went searching for the perfect photos for this week's Dynamic Duos challenge and found a couple that hit the mark.  Never mind they are from 7 years ago...  First, here are this week's colors:

I don't feel like I made good use of the colors :/ You win some, you lose some.

I started by designing my own background paper.  Sometimes plain paper just needs some jazzing up.  I took my Distressed Dots stamp and White craft ink and stamped the paper, added some Dazzling Details, heated some more than others, and spritzed with Shimmer paint and Soft Suede.  Here is a closer view:

My next big project was the "tree."  I cut each letter out of chipboard then traced them on the script DSP and then took my craft knife and carefully cut them.  This was done on a card in the Spring Catalog and I loved it.  From there, I layered a strip of Pretty Pink card stock with three different ribbons.  A *card stock* doily (I gave my white ones a break this week) and layered it with a couple of Christmas details.

Totally Redeemed

Sorry for the Dumb and Dumber reference, but I wasn't feeling my last Hand Stamped Sentiments project....not so this week.  It's our inspiration week and I'll admit I really stared at this one in my room day after day.



Isn't it lovely!?!?!...but just where to go?  I headed to my photos looking for a Valentine photo to scrap...turns out I must not take many Valentine's Day pictures.  I did however find one that I adored, even thought it's an old film photo. (So happy I only have a couple of years of film photos!)  Here is my layout:

It's stark white with pops of red-just like the inspiration photo!  This is my Linnea who is now just shy of 9!-how the heck did that happen!?!?

It was so hard to photo but the background has a fun little pattern:

I scored "envelopes" on the background-sorry you may have to click on the photo to see it larger.  I scored every 3" to make the squares then used the diagonal plate to make the "flap."  My last little detail that I loved is the flower button to match her flower on her shirt.

No Stamping Needed

It's Monochromatic week over at Dynamic Duos and remember when I said I love Bright week...I maybe forgot about this week.  I'm a sucker for tone on tone.  Here is this week's color badge:



Can you hear my squealing with delight?!?!  These are probably the most used colors in my room.  And after a couple of card weeks, I'm back with a scrap page.  Take a look:

I knew exactly what photo I was going to use immediately!  These are my girls this summer while playing in the sprinklers.  Now don't let them fool ya...they are the best of friends and the worst of enemies.  I have two younger brothers so I'm quickly learning the art of raising two girls!

I started by scoring my Suede card stock using my diagonal plate.  I love the DSP, and I'm not scared to use Vanilla and White together.  My cluster includes a tissue paper, which I made using 8 Scalloped circles cut from the Scallop Circle #2 die, stapling them together and then some twisting and turning, finished by some Crumb Cake spritzing.  My doily blended too much so I sponged with Suede and Crumb Cake ink.  Some ribbon, buttons, and pearls and it was finished!  I stamped nothing!  I had pulled out the 'sister' from the family set, but wasn't sure where to put it.
